Monday, August 17: the ten hour void of course moon

The hardest day of the last week of Leo season to work with, and the one worth planning around.

Before sunrise Mars squares Neptune. Mars is drive, the part of you that initiates and pushes. Neptune dissolves boundaries and softens edges. A square is ninety degrees, which means the two cannot see each other and do not share a language, so the friction has to get worked out through action rather than understanding. Mars square Neptune is motivation that is completely real and has no edges. You feel tired for no reason you can point at.

Then at 7:30am the Moon goes void of course, and stays void until 5:46pm. Ten hours. That is the entire workday.

A void of course moon is the gap between the Moon’s last aspect in a sign and its entry into the next one. It has finished its business in one sign and has not started anything in the next. It is a hallway. Nothing is wrong with a hallway, you just would not try to build something in one. Tuesday, August 18

The Moon moves into Scorpio Monday evening and stays there through Wednesday night. Scorpio is fixed water, which sinks and then refuses to move, so this is a Moon that can concentrate for hours. Tuesday is the best working day of the first half of the week.

Wednesday, August 19

Quiet until the evening, and the evening is the point. At 10:46pm we hit the First Quarter Moon at twenty seven degrees of Scorpio.

A moon phase is just the changing angle between the Moon and the Sun. New Moon is zero degrees apart, Full Moon is a hundred and eighty. The First Quarter is the halfway point on the way up, at ninety degrees, which means the First Quarter Moon is a square. It is the same friction aspect, happening between the two brightest things in the sky, once a month, on schedule.

So of course it is uncomfortable. It is built to be. The First Quarter is where whatever you started at the New Moon meets its first real resistance, and that resistance is information about whether the thing is built well.

Deep in Scorpio, that resistance will not be public. It will be internal and it will be about control. The question this phase asks is what you are protecting, and whether it is still worth what it costs you to protect it.

The Moon goes void again at the exact minute the phase goes exact, until 4:30am Thursday. The pressure peaks and there is nowhere to put it.

Thursday, August 20

Before dawn the Moon moves into Sagittarius and the whole atmosphere lifts, and the reason is mechanical rather than mystical.

Scorpio is fixed water. Water sinks and holds feeling, fixed does not move. Sagittarius is mutable fire, the exact opposite on both counts. Fire rises and moves, mutable does not hold. So crossing that border flips your emotional weather from sinking to rising in a single step. Thursday is not objectively better. Your nervous system just spent three days underwater and finally surfaces.

This is not a punishment. It is a valuation. It is the moment you find out what something is actually worth to you, usually by finding out what it costs. Sometimes that is a price you have to say out loud and hold while somebody flinches at it. Sometimes it is a person who wants access to you and you have to decide, in real time, whether they get it.

Twenty nine degrees, and the week’s strangest transit

This is the part I actually want to talk about.
