Libra decan 1, and what the balance point asks

Short answer

Libra decan 1 covers 0 to 10 degrees of Libra, roughly 22 September to 3 October, sub-ruled by Venus. It opens at the equinox, so it is Venus in a Venus sign at the exact balance point of the solar year. Its job is wanting, and noticing who else is in the room.

Libra decan 1 is the first ten days of Libra season, and it starts on the one day the year is level. Venus rules the sign and sub-rules this decan, which makes it the purest Venus stretch in the whole calendar.

If your birthday falls between about 22 September and about 3 October, this is your decan. If it is not, this is still the stretch everybody walks into straight out of the equinox, and it has a very particular pull to it.

Quick orientation, because Libra decan 1 only makes sense inside the system it belongs to. A decan is a ten day slice of a sign, three per sign, thirty six in the year. If any of that is new, the full decan explainer is here.

The season

What the year is actually doing

The equinox is the moment the sun crosses the celestial equator going south. Light and dark are level, and from that point on the dark takes a little more every day until the solstice.

That is the whole sign, and Libra decan 1 is the part standing right on the line. Not harmony. The last moment before the tilt, when you can still see both sides at the same weight and have to decide what you are carrying into a darker part of the year.

Worth knowing: the day and the night are not actually equal on the equinox. Because of how sunrise is defined and how the atmosphere bends light, daylight runs a few minutes long. Timeanddate explains the arithmetic. Even the balance point is not balanced, which is the most Libra fact I know.

The sub-ruler

Why Libra decan 1 gets Venus twice over

Under the triplicity system, the first decan of a sign always takes that sign’s own ruler. Libra is ruled by Venus, so Libra decan 1 is Venus running a Venus sign with nothing diluting it.

Air signs run Gemini, Libra, Aquarius, so decan 2 hands forward to Aquarius and Saturn, and decan 3 wraps to Gemini and Mercury. This one gets neither. It is just Venus.

What that produces is the most recognisably Libra stretch of Libra. Attraction, taste, the constant awareness of another person’s angle. People born here are unusually good at reading a room and unusually quick to adjust to it, often before they have checked whether they wanted to.

The failure mode, said plainly

Venus wants to be wanted. With no Saturn to set a limit and no Mercury to argue the case, that can slide into agreeing with whoever spoke last and calling it being easygoing.

The distinction that matters: adjusting because you genuinely reconsidered is intelligence. Adjusting because the disagreement was uncomfortable is a habit, and it costs you the thing you actually wanted. Same behaviour from outside. Completely different price.

The part worth reading twice

The equinox is not harmony. It is the last day the two sides weigh the same.

Whoever you are

What Libra decan 1 asks of you, whatever your sign

Everybody moves through this stretch every year, whatever their birthday is. It does not hand you a personality for ten days. It makes a small set of questions unusually easy to answer.

  • What do you actually want, before anyone else weighs in? Venus asks it plainly here, and this is the one stretch of the year where the answer arrives before the editing does.
  • Whose opinion are you carrying that you never agreed to carry? Libra decan 1 is very good at making that visible, because it is so tuned to other people that the borrowed opinions start to feel loud.
  • Where have you called it keeping the peace when it was avoiding a conversation? Those are not the same and one of them compounds.
  • What is worth taking into the dark half of the year? The equinox question, and this is the ten days you get to answer it before the season starts making the case for you.

None of that is a forecast. It is what a particular ten days of the solar cycle tends to make legible, which is a different claim and a more honest one.

Worked example

What Libra decan 1 looked like in 2026

This is the dated section. Leave it in place as a worked example and add a new one underneath each year rather than replacing the page.

The sun crossed into Libra on Tuesday 22 September at 8:05pm Eastern, which was the equinox, and reached 10 degrees on Saturday 3 October at 12:44am, which closed the decan.

A full moon on the Libra and Aries axis, four days in

The full moon fell on Saturday 26 September at 12:49pm Eastern, moon at 3 degrees 37 of Aries, sun at 3 degrees 37 of Libra. That is the self and other axis lit from both ends, inside the decan that is already about other people.

The day before it, Friday 25 September at 9:36pm, the sun opposed Neptune at 3 degrees of Libra. Two oppositions in eighteen hours, on almost the same degree. Whatever was blurry about what somebody wanted got a lot of light very fast.

And then the closing detail, which is the one I would put on a poster. Libra decan 1 ended at 12:44am on 3 October. Venus, the ruler of the whole sign, stationed retrograde at 3:15am the same morning. Two hours and thirty one minutes.

What comes next

Three decans, three different jobs

Libra decan 1 wants. Libra decan 2 opens around 3 October under Saturn and has to decide, which is a great deal more expensive. Libra decan 3 opens around 13 October under Mercury and has to say it out loud, which is more expensive still.

Three jobs, not three grades. Nobody is a better Libra for being in the first one. It is just the one that looks most like the stereotype, because the stereotype was built out of pure Venus and then applied to everybody born in the following twenty days.

The honest limit of any of this

Your decan tells you the flavour. Your chart tells you where it lands.

Two people born on the same day in Libra decan 1 can run completely differently, because the sun is one placement out of a dozen that matter and the houses put it in an entirely different area of life for each of them. This is pattern recognition across the solar cycle, not a prediction and not a verdict on you.

Common questions

Questions people actually ask

What dates is Libra decan 1?

Roughly 22 September to 3 October, shifting by a day either way depending on the year. It covers 0 to 10 degrees of Libra and opens on the September equinox.

What is Libra decan 1 ruled by?

Venus, under the triplicity system, because Venus rules Libra and the first decan of any sign takes that sign’s own ruler. It is Venus on Venus, undiluted.

What is the difference between Libra decan 1, 2 and 3?

Three different jobs, not three grades. Libra decan 1 wants, decan 2 decides under Saturn, and decan 3 has to put the decision into words under Mercury.

Is Libra decan 1 the most Libra?

It is the most recognisably Libra, because it is pure Venus at the balance point of the year. That is not the same as being the strongest, and signs are not a ranking.

Why does Libra decan 1 get called a people pleaser?

Because Venus runs it with no Saturn to set a limit and no Mercury to argue the case, so adjusting to the room is the fastest available move. It is arithmetic, not a character flaw.

Does my decan override my sun sign?

No. It sharpens it. Your decan is one line of a very long document, and your moon, rising and houses will all argue with it.
